COMMUNICATING EFFICIENTLY IS NOT AN EASY MATTER !

TUESDAY, APRIL 16, 2013

It is often said that the absence of communication is a major issue in society. Whether among couples or among political parties sharing the National Assembly or the House of Commons.

The problem lies not in the exchange of messages, but rather in poor listening, in lack of analysis and understanding.

What a better example than global warming. The overwhelming majority of experts in the field (around 99%) have concluded that the monster is on its way and that consequences are unavoidable. But there are a few opponents who claim the opposite. As a result, according to surveys : 32% of Quebecers and 40% of Canadians do not believe that climatic change is upon us. In fact, if one looked at the number of people who are actually DOING something about it, the conclusion would be that up to 90% of the people DO NOT ACTUALLY BELIEVE that the phenomenon is occurring and that it will devastate their lives.

The explanation for this paradox is rather straightforward : climate experts are describing reality, while opponents are telling people what they want to hear. Namely, that everything will be all right and that the economy will keep growing as promised by those people voted for.

Surprise ! Surprise ! It is not votes that may help predict the future but rather data and thorough analysis. Recently, a major Montreal newspaper wrote: « Over the last ten years, the average temperature at the Earth’s surface has not increased. All experts agree on that. »

Forget the experts. Look at the data. Real figures, actual measurements. Here is what they say. Every single one of the first 12 years of the 21st century ranks among the 14 warmest since 1880. Here is a simple question. You don’t need to be a scientist to answer it correctly: how can these years be the warmest if global warming is no longer occurring ?

DONE ! KÔ COMMUNICATIONS IS ONLINE

MONDAY, APRIL 1, 2013

Welcome to our Blog at Kô Communications, which has only been online for a few days. After living somewhat in hiding since birth, we are very happy to have a brand new site on the web. Our vision for a blog is rather straightforward: to share articles, thoughts and other websites dealing with issues that we care for. Humanitarian work, international, environment, philosophy in everyday life, the status of women in society, tools for moving ideas are among subjects that we are involved in.

We will be talking in French and English, maybe sometimes in Spanish, German and even (!?) mandarin, but always listening.

Authors who write on this blog are solely responsible for opinions expressed here. They are personal views and should not in any way be considered as representing other people’s, including employers, views.

Looking forward to meeting you again.
